Added Dimension Dentistry Blog
June 2011
I am aware that it is a shockingly long time since I updated our blog. I am resolved to update it more regularly now that I am going to be working less at the practice and focusing more on Oralift. There is so much news since my last posting! The biggest news is that Nick has sold the practice to a group of high profile dentists from Italy. Nick will continue working here two days a week and I will promote and market Oralift. Nick has in the last couple of years become very weary of holding a dental drill and now just wants to devote his working time to Oralift and possibly his beloved dentures! When we placed the practice on the market, it was important to Nick to have dentists here who share his vision of dentistry and who are passionate about Oralift. Two of the dentists are already providing Oralift treatment in their practices in Italy. There are going to be big changes to the First Floor 18 Wimpole Street suite which has been home to Added Dimension Dentistry for almost 12 years. The practice will be set up for implants and the latest cosmetic aesthetic dentistry. Combined with Nick’s Oralift treatment, there should be a superb set up here aiming to meet the demands of 21st century dentistry. I gather there is a huge Italian community in London, so their needs in particular will be met with Italian dentists and bi lingual staff. Our lovely Lauren left us in November last year when her visa expired and she had no choice but to return to Australia. She has started her Masters in Clinical Psychology and when it is completed I believe there is a good chance she will want to return to the UK. She is actually here at the moment as she has been bridesmaid at a friend’s wedding and she has of course visited us before she fitted in a quick trip to Portugal. Funnily enough when she was here one of her countryfolk had popped in to see what Oralift is all about. This was dentist Derek Mahoney who lectures worldwide on orthodontics.

Lauren is always more than happy to talk about her experience of Oralift, which she says has been life changing. Lauren has suffered from headaches since she was eight. She said she had a headache virtually continuously and migraines three times a week. She always had to have painkillers in her bag. Working with Nick and Oralift, she was intrigued to find out if it could help with relaxing her tense muscles. She had to go very slowly with it and could only tolerate the appliance initially for five minutes at a time, but slowly but surely she built up to the periods recommended by Nick and she is now able to wear the highest appliance! Nick was always confident that Oralift would work for Lauren who now only experiences the vey occasional headache when she is really stressed. We also had a visit this month from David Bloom, former president of the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentists and his partner Jay who also wanted to see more of what Oralift is about.

They were very impressed. Slowly but surely we will try to educate the profession on the benefits of this wonderful little appliance! Amarjit Gill is another high profile dentist, recent President of the British Dental Association (BDA) who has had a presentation about Oralift.

We had a mini course in April for three German dentists, one of whom lives in Poland and teaches at a dental school. They are looking into how they might introduce Oralift to Poland. Anyone who knows Nick will know that his greatest desire is to put Oralift on a scientific basis with a clinical trial conducted by a leading hospital. Of course he has a wealth of photographic and anecdotal evidence but he believes a trial is essential for Oralift to gain the credibility it deserves, and to make it more available worldwide. One of the leading dental hospitals is currently doing 3D imaging of one of his Oralift patients with a view to doing a trial if the results prove worthy. This would be the most exciting outcome and would justify and validate the years of developing this product which has become the greatest passion of his career. He believes this appliance has so many applications and could lead to so much more research. On a personal note, we were delighted to welcome Becky from Tucson Arizona into our family when she married our son Kieron last September.
They met while Becky was training to be an actress at Lamda where Kieron is IT Manager. They wanted a small intimate wedding which turned out to be quite spectacular and huge fun. After the ceremony at Camden Registry office, an open top Routemaster bus took us to the London Eye where we had a champagne flight in our own pod. Then the bus took us to Paramount which is a venue at the top of Centre Point. More champagne in the viewing gallery where the views of the city are breathtaking. Finally a wonderful dinner in the intimate Red Room of Paramount…a perfect day! Becky’s Dad from Tucson, brother and girlfriend from Chicago and Gran from San Francisco all came for the wedding and stayed with us, making the whole week so memorable. One of Kieron’s friends from University days flew in from the Phillipines for the wedding and delighted everyone by wearing full highland dress. Another family friend of Becky’s wore his American Air Force uniform, making it a very glamorous occasion.

A couple of weeks ago, we had a call from a Russian TV company, asking if they could film at our practice, interviewing Nick about his techniques. They were doing a programme about natural facial rejuvenation and wanted to film Nick fitting an Oralift appliance and look at some of his before and after images. We were bemused to hear that the audience for that TV channel is over 100 million! We weren’t entirely sure how they found out about Nick’s work but every year a group of Russian dentists come to the practice to talk to Nick and look at his work. I think this all started when Derek Watson from Dental Practice asked if we would mind showing a group of Russian dentists round a private practice in London….
The filming duly took place…luckily the interviewer spoke fluent English and the patient having the Oralift fitted also happened to speak some Russian. We look forward to receiving a copy of the filming!
We have just finished another course…we had the loveliest group of dentists, from Holland, Italy (of course!) and the UK. Sometimes groups really gel and this one did and judging by the response on the evaluation forms, the dentists enjoyed it as much as we enjoyed having them. We have just put some new dates on our websites and look forward to the next courses. I would like to see interest from dentists from Ireland…we haven’t had an Irish delegate yet, although we get quite a few enquiries from both Northern Ireland and the republic.

Everyone is fed up with this eternal winter… the novelty of snow has finally worn off with Lauren! We had a number of cancellations due to the weather but that’s inevitable when so many patients travel from quite long distances to see us.
Lots of exciting news already this year…we have just had another course at the weekend where we welcomed 7 dentists from Italy and four from the UK. To help with any language problems, Lauren asked her Italian friend Anna Lisa to come and help with translation. Again this was a really enjoyable course with lovely dentists attending from North Wales, Brighton, Aberdeen and Glasgow. It is quite exhausting for Nick who talks for two days, but Lauren is proving invaluable with her input to the courses. Nick loves doing the courses though, as Oralift has become his life’s passion..understandably! We are already preparing for the March course and are excited to be welcoming an old friend of ours from Holland, who worked in Canterbury in the 1990’s. Frank now has three orthodontic practices in Holland and is intrigued to find out more about what his old friend Nick is doing these days!
The biggest news though is about something Nick has been trying to achieve for the past five years….clinical trials, which are now in a late planning stage and awaiting national approval. We look forward to making an announcement about this in the near future! I really believe 2010 is going to be the biggest year yet for Oralift……

![]() Lauren, our new team member |
2009 has turned out to be quite an eventful and productive year for us…productive in that our former technician Ines gave birth to her second lovely son Noah, and Oddry our new technician had a beautiful daughter Hanna in November. After much soul searching and also because of her husband’s job, Oddry originally from Venezuela, has decided to settle in Barcelona to be close to her family. We miss her but she keeps in contact by email and we plan to visit her in Barcelona sometime in 2010.
We welcomed Lauren from Brisbane, Australia to the practice in November, and she has already become a valued team member, bringing to the practice not just her dental skills but a research degree in psychology. Lauren helped with our course in November, which turned out to be one of the most enjoyable….the dentists who attended really gelled. Two came from Rome, one from Switzerland and the rest from various parts of the UK, including Aberdeen, Cardiff and Canterbury. This means that the Oralift map is expanding, not just here but in Europe. It is certainly becoming popular in Tuscany thanks to the enthusiasm of Dr. Daniela Soave in Florence.
On October 1st an article about Oralift appeared in the Daily Mail. It was a brilliant article, with the journalist Leah Hardy giving an honest account of what Oralift did for her. Such is the power of the health and beauty pages of the Daily Mail, we were inundated with requests for the treatment. We have always believed that Oralift facial rejuvenation meets the need for those looking for a natural and non invasive effective anti ageing treatment. It can also compliment other treatments like fillers. It was lovely to get such a wonderful response to the treatment, mainly because we want this treatment to be more widely available. If patients ask their dentists for Oralift, dentists will come on our courses and be able to offer the treatment in their practices. We were delighted to provide the lovely Tara Palmer Tomkinson with Oralift and over the moon to read her comments about it in Hello magazine and the Sunday Express mag. Celebrity endorsement does seem to be important these days.
After an exhausting but enjoyable 2009, we are looking forward to a long Christmas break…something we were never able to have while in general practice…so all the more appreciated. Lauren is excited about her trip to Denmark where she is hoping to experience a very white Christmas….followed by Hogmanay in Edinburgh, lucky girl!

November 2008
I can’t believe that so many weeks have passed since I last updated the blog. It’s certainly true that the older you get the quicker time flies by. As usual plenty to report, but the most exciting practice news is that Lizelle gave birth in September to her first baby, a beautiful girl, and has called her Lara. Congratulations to Lizelle and her husband Louis!
We were surprised and touched to receive a wedding invitation from a patient and her partner in Singapore. They are a couple who run dermatology clinics and Dr Tan had heard Nick speak at the anti ageing conference. He wanted his partner to try Oralift and so she had the treatment and was very impressed. Apparently, one of her colleagues at the clinic had thought she had undergone some surgery! Unfortunately the wedding is in December just before Christmas and we were unable to accept as that is a very busy time for us. We probably should have thrown caution to the winds and accepted, because you don’t get too many opportunities like that in life. I have always regretted not attending our friends, Payman and Carla Langroudi’s wedding in Beirut a few years ago. Payman was a VT with Nick in our Ashford practice and they now run the Enlighten whitening company.
Nick has just held another two day courses at the practice and as usual it had a wonderfully international flavour with dentists coming from Japan, Italy and Holland as well as England. I have often wondered why Nick’s work always attracts more interest from overseas than the UK. He has developed a working relationship with a journalist from Dubai, who has written articles for a couple of magazines there. There is an article coming up in the new year in an Italian dental publication and a dentist from north Italy has asked Nick to give a course there. The Dutch dentist who came to the last course is hopeful of arranging for Nick to give a course in Holland. She was amazed when she walked into our practice and was reunited with one of the professors who had taught her at Baghdad University some twenty years ago…that small world again!
Nick is going to put a world map on our websites showing all the places where dentists have come to a Dentalfacelift and Oralift course. We would love to see this treatment being offered in more countries. It is frustrating that clinical trials have not yet been arranged, as we need these to be done to give the scientific backing for the work. It’s frustrating because Oralift , a natural self rejuvenating treatment doesn’t really have a competitor….

May 2008
Time goes by so quickly, I can't believe it's three months since I updated the blog and as usual a great deal has been happening. We have some lovely news about Lizelle.....she is expecting her first baby in September. We are absolutely delighted for her and her husband Louis.
The other important news is that the proposed formation of Orchid Medical to market Oralift has unfortunately not gone ahead as planned and we are looking for investors to market Oralift internationally. This year after attending Nick's courses last year various other dentists both in the UK and overseas have started providing Oralift treatment. We are grateful for their feedback. Dr Soave in Florence has problems with English but makes up for it in enthusiasm. David Huston a highly respected UK dentist has been enthusiastic about Nick's work since he heard him talk at the World Aesthetic Congress last year. He came on one of Nick's courses and is now offering Oralift in his practice. We are indebted to David for his feedback and support. David is someone we greatly admire as he runs a twenty surgery practice and always seems to take it in his stride! We are also getting interest from Germany and Bahrain.
Next week Nick is giving a talk about Oralift to a group of West End practitioners. He is looking forward to that and to the response.
It can only be a matter of time before Oralift really takes off...could it be the next Botox?! The results continue to amaze us and the ultimate endorsement came from our son Rohan, aged twenty two, who is of course not the least bit interested in facial ageing, but he does have a problem with his skin...mild acne. Nick asked Rohan to try using the Oralift appliance and after two weeks even Rohan had to admit the improvement was impressive. One of our Oralift patients from Glasgow is over the moon with her result and says she just can't understand why many more people aren't having this treatment...all in good time!!

A Happy New Year to everyone reading this! I know it’s going to be an exciting one for Added Dimension Dentistry…..
Our technician, Ines, is now on maternity leave with her first baby due in February. We are all looking forward to Ines’ happy event. Her replacement Oddry Fernandez is from Venezuela. Oddry almost completed a dental degree but sadly was forced to give it up in her final year when she moved to London and started a dental technician’s degree. That’s one aspect of London life that Nick and I love…there is always the opportunity to employ staff from different countries, which we believe makes life more interesting. I hope that is not a politically incorrect statement! Even in Ashford, we were lucky enough to employ dentists from Denmark and Holland. We still keep in touch with them.

Our nurse Lizelle, who has been with us for seven years, is from Stellenbosch in South Africa and one of these days we hope she and her husband, Louis — also South African, will show us around their country. As we all know, there is no better way to see a country.
This month, we have a cosmetic surgeon coming from Holland to have Oralift treatment. She wants to have it herself before offering it to her patients. Nick thinks this is a great way of training professionals. This particular surgeon contacted us after hearing Nick talk at the London anti ageing conference. We have had so much response from that conference! Delegates who have had or are going to have Oralift include a chiropractor from London (who recommended the treatment to her neighbour), a doctor from Australia, a doctor and his sister from Birmingham and most recently a doctor and dentist husband and wife from Spain. It always strikes me as strange that we get so much interest from overseas and so little from the UK.
The big news of 2008 is that a new company, Orchid Medical, has been formed to take over Oralift. Nick has done this because he has neither the time nor the expertise to market Oralift internationally. The first step will be for clinical trials to be undertaken and after that, it should be all systems go. The co-director of Orchid has twenty five years experience in the aesthetics and medical devices and the business background essential to make this a success.

December 2007
I thought it was time to start a blog for Added Dimension Dentistry. Because of the nature of the work we do here, we don’t see many of our patients on a six monthly basis and many of them want to be kept informed as to how things are developing and what is going on at the practice. We receive many enquiries from dentists too both here and overseas, mainly about Oralift. The plan is to do the blog on a monthly basis. So much has been happening over the past year and we expect 2008 to be an eventful one too, so watch this space….
On 29th and 30th November Nick held his second courses on the Dentalfacelift procedures and Oralift Facial Rejuvenation. His course in July was just for one day and the dentists who attended had felt too much material was covered in one go. This time the material was spread over two days but there still wasn’t enough time!
It was a great group with delegates from South Africa, California, Italy and Bahrain as well as England. Nick’s work has always attracted interest from overseas dentists and they have really encouraged him to do courses. Nick is first and foremost a dentist who enjoys treating patients in his surgery and I have been amazed at how he has coped with presenting lectures and doing courses. He is now at the stage where he is actually enjoying doing these, something I never thought would happen.
In June he gave a talk at WAC, followed by a presentation in September at the London anti ageing conference. Then he was invited to give a lecture at Florence University, which was really enjoyable because we had never been to Florence and we had a chance to explore the city as well. The Italian dentists made us feel really welcome and he has been invited back to Florence in the spring. There is also the possibility of Nick speaking at the Australian anti ageing conference next autumn. We have never been to Australia either, so that is another exciting opportunity.
But back to the courses last week. We were fortunate in having a really delightful group of dentists who asked lots of questions. Nick’s Oralift treatment always arouses the most interest and Dr. Soave from Florence is going to start offering it to her patients as soon as she returns to Italy. She got so fed up of Nick delaying doing courses that she came over to the practice a few months ago to ask him all about it! As well as Italy, we have had visits from dentists from Istanbul and Russia… Never a dull moment!
