Added Dimension Dentistry Blog
I thought it was time to start a blog for Added Dimension Dentistry. Because of the nature of the work we do here, we don’t see many of our patients on a six monthly basis and many of them want to be kept informed as to how things are developing and what is going on at the practice. We receive many enquiries from dentists too both here and overseas, mainly about Oralift. The plan is to do the blog on a monthly basis. So much has been happening over the past year and we expect 2008 to be an eventful one too, so watch this space….
On 29th and 30th November Nick held his second courses on the Dentalfacelift procedures and Oralift Facial Rejuvenation. His course in July was just for one day and the dentists who attended had felt too much material was covered in one go. This time the material was spread over two days but there still wasn’t enough time!
It was a great group with delegates from South Africa, California, Italy and Bahrain as well as England. Nick’s work has always attracted interest from overseas dentists and they have really encouraged him to do courses. Nick is first and foremost a dentist who enjoys treating patients in his surgery and I have been amazed at how he has coped with presenting lectures and doing courses. He is now at the stage where he is actually enjoying doing these, something I never thought would happen.
In June he gave a talk at WAC, followed by a presentation in September at the London anti ageing conference. Then he was invited to give a lecture at Florence University, which was really enjoyable because we had never been to Florence and we had a chance to explore the city as well. The Italian dentists made us feel really welcome and he has been invited back to Florence in the spring. There is also the possibility of Nick speaking at the Australian anti ageing conference next autumn. We have never been to Australia either, so that is another exciting opportunity.
But back to the courses last week. We were fortunate in having a really delightful group of dentists who asked lots of questions. Nick’s Oralift treatment always arouses the most interest and Dr. Soave from Florence is going to start offering it to her patients as soon as she returns to Italy. She got so fed up of Nick delaying doing courses that she came over to the practice a few months ago to ask him all about it! As well as Italy, we have had visits from dentists from Istanbul and Russia… Never a dull moment!

A Happy New Year to everyone reading this! I know it’s going to be an exciting one for Added Dimension Dentistry…..
Our technician, Ines, is now on maternity leave with her first baby due in February. We are all looking forward to Ines’ happy event. Her replacement Oddry Fernandez is from Venezuela. Oddry almost completed a dental degree but sadly was forced to give it up in her final year when she moved to London and started a dental technician’s degree. That’s one aspect of London life that Nick and I love…there is always the opportunity to employ staff from different countries, which we believe makes life more interesting. I hope that is not a politically incorrect statement! Even in Ashford, we were lucky enough to employ dentists from Denmark and Holland. We still keep in touch with them.

Our nurse Lizelle, who has been with us for seven years, is from Stellenbosch in South Africa and one of these days we hope she and her husband, Louis — also South African, will show us around their country. As we all know, there is no better way to see a country.
This month, we have a cosmetic surgeon coming from Holland to have Oralift treatment. She wants to have it herself before offering it to her patients. Nick thinks this is a great way of training professionals. This particular surgeon contacted us after hearing Nick talk at the London anti ageing conference. We have had so much response from that conference! Delegates who have had or are going to have Oralift include a chiropractor from London (who recommended the treatment to her neighbour), a doctor from Australia, a doctor and his sister from Birmingham and most recently a doctor and dentist husband and wife from Spain. It always strikes me as strange that we get so much interest from overseas and so little from the UK.
The big news of 2008 is that a new company, Orchid Medical, has been formed to take over Oralift. Nick has done this because he has neither the time nor the expertise to market Oralift internationally. The first step will be for clinical trials to be undertaken and after that, it should be all systems go. The co-director of Orchid has twenty five years experience in the aesthetics and medical devices and the business background essential to make this a success.

Time goes by so quickly, I can't believe it's three months since I updated the blog and as usual a great deal has been happening. We have some lovely news about Lizelle.....she is expecting her first baby in September. We are absolutely delighted for her and her husband Louis.
The other important news is that the proposed formation of Orchid Medical to market Oralift has unfortunately not gone ahead as planned and we are looking for investors to market Oralift internationally. This year after attending Nick's courses last year various other dentists both in the UK and overseas have started providing Oralift treatment. We are grateful for their feedback. Dr Soave in Florence has problems with English but makes up for it in enthusiasm. David Huston a highly respected UK dentist has been enthusiastic about Nick's work since he heard him talk at the World Aesthetic Congress last year. He came on one of Nick's courses and is now offering Oralift in his practice. We are indebted to David for his feedback and support. David is someone we greatly admire as he runs a twenty surgery practice and always seems to take it in his stride! We are also getting interest from Germany and Bahrain.
Next week Nick is giving a talk about Oralift to a group of West End practitioners. He is looking forward to that and to the response.
It can only be a matter of time before Oralift really takes off...could it be the next Botox?! The results continue to amaze us and the ultimate endorsement came from our son Rohan, aged twenty two, who is of course not the least bit interested in facial ageing, but he does have a problem with his skin...mild acne. Nick asked Rohan to try using the Oralift appliance and after two weeks even Rohan had to admit the improvement was impressive. One of our Oralift patients from Glasgow is over the moon with her result and says she just can't understand why many more people aren't having this treatment...all in good time!!
